Digital vs. Traditional

Maurits Cornelis Escher
June 17, 1898-March 27, 1972
He was one of the world's most famous graphic artists. He did realistic work during the time he lived and traveled in Italy. He was a sickly child, and was placed in a special school at the age of seven and failed the second grade. Though he excelled at drawing, his grades were generally poor. He also took carpentry and piano lessons until he was thirteen years old. In 1919, Escher attended the Harlem School of Architecture and Decorative Arts.

Rind 1955 wood engraving and woodcut
Maurits Cornelis

Description: a wood carving with what appears to be a human’s face. This picture is creative because it looks like a ribbon thrown in the air a formed a figure.
Analyze: the picture was painted but the face was to make it seem it was carved out of wood. The color n shade is very balance.
Interpretation: I like the picture its unique and creative
Judgment: the picture is good and well managed.

Digital vs. Traditional

Jean Arp
September 16 1886 – June 17 1966
Jean Arp (Hans Arp) was German-French sculptor, painter and poet. In 1925, he participated in the first Surrealist exhibition in Paris. He worked on sculptures and painting. His work was characterized by its organic, metamorphic shapes which seemed to repeat the twists and forms of nature and growth.
Description: sculptor Jean Arp did and entered in the surrealist exhibition. It’s a creative work of art that is abstract. He made it look twisted and curved to give it a better more unique look.
Analyze: this sculpture is made out of copper and due to the twisting and turning the sculptor has dark spot in the middle because the light doesn’t hit from that angle.
Interpretation: I personal didn’t like it because it looks like it was a project that lost its figure. Maybe if it was more abstract I’d would have like it.
Judgement: I think it’s a unique piece but yet dull. The way that the artist twisted the figure was creative and I like that.
